Using the Amherst Writers and Artists (AWA) method, beginning and experienced writers will explore fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry. This group will focus on in-class writing, optional sharing and positive feedback in a supportive environment. Optional writing prompts are designed to help writers with craft and creativity. The instructor is an AWA certified affiliate. Please bring paper and a pen.

*CLASS FULL* Abstract Painting I & II - Summer2024

Ages 16+

Learn and expand upon a range of concepts, strategies and processes that are part of creating abstract artwork. Techniques used in mixed media and acrylic painting will be presented as well as historical information, examples of contemporary abstract artwork and color theory. Materials list is provided upon registration.

Coastal Creations - Summer2024

Ages 7-12

6 Sessions
$95/ $85 LCA Members

Young artists will use natural materials from the beach to create mixed media artwork. Using beach glass, branches, seashells and more, students will learn how to create unique nautical artworks. All materials are provided.

Nature Photography - Summer2024

Ages 18+

6 Sessions
$125 / $112 LCA Members

Traveling to different local nature preserves each week, students will learn techniques and refine skills to capture natural scenery. Whether a novice or more experienced photographer, participants will meet the instructor at local nature preserves to find inspiration and collaborate on ideas. The first class will meet at Lubeznik Center for the Arts. Participants are reasponsible for transportation during class, and are encouraged to bring any type of camera available to them. Digital cameras are available to rent for $20 upon call-in request with our front desk.

Character Design - Summer24

Ages 8-16

6 Sessions *Class will not meet on Thursday, July 4

Over the course of this class, students will discover the process of creating a unique set of characters through sketches and concept design. Character sketches will gain realistic qualities such as personal style, unique physical features and descriptive personality traits. Students will experience the creative process used by professional artists to design a cast for a cartoon show, manga literature or an animated series. All materials are provided.

The Spiritual in Contemporary Art - Summer2024

Ages 18+

Join fellow art enthusiasts for lively discussions and riveting art presentations centered around themes of spirituality in the art world. Gain insight into relevant topics while observing artistic representations of the transcendent, the numinous and the mystical.

Theater for Young Thespians - Summer24

Ages 7-14

6 Sessions *Class will not meet on Saturday, July 13

Students in this class will learn the fundamental techniques and practices used by theater actors such as voice inflection, stage vocabulary and tools used to engage an audience. Students will work both in groups and independently to perform several scripted works and choreographed routines.

Acting for Adults - Summer2024

Ages 18+

Experience the process of script reading, or table reads, where actors perform their roles for the first time amongst peers. Whether you're an experienced thespian or a first-time performer, this class will explore different scripts and scenes in a relaxed and creative atmosphere. Learn the elements that make an authentic performance and experiment with character development.

Fashion Camp for Adults - Summer2024

Ages 18+

5 Sessions *Class will not meet on Thursday, July 4
$145/ $131 LCA Members +$10 supply fee*

Created for adults with a passion for fashion, participants will design and create their own ensembles by upcycling fabrics with embellishment and embroidery. Demonstrating simple sewing and pattern techniques, the instructor will lead participants through the design of an outfit complete with accessories such as shawls, handbags and more. No prior sewing experience required.

The Psychology of Colors Workshop - Summer2024

Ages 18+

1 Session
$55/ $50 LCA Members

Participants will explore different schools of thought and various cultural interpretations of color through a presentation and class discussion. Following this introduction, the instructor will lead the participants in creating a paper collage to visually represent an emotion of choice. The workshop will conclude with a positive group discussion surrounding the artwork created. All materials are provided.

Printmaking Workshop - Summer2024

Ages 13+

1 Session
$55 / $50 LCA Members

During this workshop, participants will learn how to create a stamp from linoleum tile. Demonstrating carving and safety techniques, the instructor will lead participants through the process of designing, carving and printing their pattern or image. Participants will leave with their carved tile to use as a personalized stamp. All materials are provided.

Fashion Week Camp - Summer24

Ages 7-14

Fashion Week July 15-19
9 AM to 1 PM (Central), Monday through Friday.

$135/ $122 for LCA members.

Campers need to bring a nut-free lunch and dress for mess!

Back by popular demand, experience the design process from start to finish. Students will step into the shoes of a clothing designer to create a fashion line through sketches, sewing designs and fabric assembly. Using repurposed materials, campers will learn simple sewing techniques to design and model their own creations. Come dressed for mess. Family and friends are invited on Friday, July 19, at 12 PM Central to join our designers for a runway show.

Time: 9 AM-1 PM CST

Campers in Wonderland - Summer24

Ages 7-14

$135/ $122 for LCA members.
Campers need to bring a nut-free lunch and dress for mess!

Curiouser and curiouser! Join our cast of peculiar characters as we travel down the rabbit hole to create a world of wonder! Using natural materials and whacky designs, campers will make art inspired by the beloved children’s tale. Come dressed for mess. Family and friends are invited to join our “mad” tea party on Friday, July 26, at 12 PM Central.

Time: 9 AM-1 PM CST

Boats, Buildings & Bridges Camp - Summer24

Ages 7-14

Each five day, in-person program is $135/ $122 for LCA members

Campers need to bring a nut-free lunch and dress for mess!

Calling all architects! Do you want to design the skyscraper of your dreams? Do you love watching boats race across the waves? Do you want to construct a mechanical drawbridge? Then this camp is for you! Students will sketch local architectural monuments, build 3D models and learn how the pros use perspective to create a realistic drawing. Come dressed for mess. Family and friends are invited on Friday, August 9, at 12 PM Central to view our architectural archives.

Our scholarship program makes artistic learning opportunities possible for all ages. Scholarships are available for our classes, workshops and camp programs. A simple application is all that is needed.

Student Learning Tours

We provide access to exceptional exhibitions and programs that explore and inspire contemporary thought. Our tours bring a diverse group of nearly 2,000 students annually to LCA for educational tours and onsite art making. Bring your students to Lubeznik Center for the Arts for an inspirational tour of our exhibits featuring internationally known and emerging artists creating unique and exciting work.

When students can't get to our galleries, we have developed a free virtual program to bring the art to your students! Educators can utilize a series of video field trips tailored to use in person or virtually.
